For Mac & Quack’s owner Andrew MacDonald, working with insects and wildlife has always been a family affair. He grew up on a honey bee farm in upstate New York and learned about colonized insects like bees and ants from his father, who held a Master’s Degree in Apiculture, the science of bee-keeping, from Cornell University. Andrew spent his younger years trapping for the fur market, and was a licensed trapper at only five years old! He started Mac & Quack’s while still in high school, and has been working with insects and wildlife ever since.
Andrew was licensed by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife for 10 years, through the 1990’s, which is where he received his formal training. Andrew’s current credentials include:
- He is licensed by the Maine Division of Fisheries and Wildlife for Animal Damage Control
- He is a registered Maine Guide for fishing, hunting and trapping
- He is licensed by the Maine Board of Pesticides Control as a Master Applicator in categories 7A, 7B and 7E

Andrew and his wife, Heather, live with their children in the foothills of the White Mountains of Maine. As a family, they enjoy all things out-of-doors, and Andrew and Heather partner in home-schooling one school-aged son and leading a youth group at their church.
